Mad Max Beyond LegoDome

Freakin’ sweet! Misterzumbi has built the Mad Max Interceptor car with some degree of accuracy (and a large degree of awesomeness). It’s even complete with a Mel Gibson-like mini-fig and dog. Apparently this is a project that’s been almost 5 years in the making… which sounds a lot like most of my projects- mostly in my head. The Interceptor was based on a 1973 Ford XB Falcon Hardtop, FYI.

The whole case folds up just like any other backgammon set. Backgammon is one my favorite games- I love the speed and decision making. It’s not like c

This has to be one of the craziest uses of the LEGO Mindstorm robotic system. The Swimming Pool Insect Terminator (SPIT) is a self propelled floating robot that detects clusters of bugs on the surface of your swimming pool. SPIT uses a light sensor to detect the floating bugs. When a cluster of bugs is found it activates a lever that sprays bug spray from the aerosol can. A paddle wheel then pushes the dead bugs below the surface of the water so they can be sucked up by the pool’s filter (apparently floating objects can’t be). The SPIT uses ultrasonic sensors to avoid hitting the sides of the pool. The whole thing floats on sideways wheels. Pretty impressive (and scary for the bugs!).

LEGO Backgammon Combines a Toy and a Game

It’s interesting to take a toy that allows for such creativity and freeform expression like LEGO and make a game out it because games can be highly structured and rulesbound. Philosophical musings aside, someone has gone ahead and made an awesome backgammon set completely out of LEGOs (except the dice, natch).
The whole case folds up just like any other backgammon set. Backgammon is one my favorite games- I love the speed and decision making. It’s not like chess where you have to plan moves far in advance, the randomness of the die won’t allow for that. You make general strategy decisions and then alter them according to how the dice rolls each turn.

LEGO Minifig Style Motorcycle Helmet

I’m not sure what type of image you’re trying to project when you’re riding down the road in LEGO minifig motorcycle helmet. Perhaps it’s more suited for a scooter than a Harley. I’m just saying.

Hobbymedia (it) has spotted the Lego MP3 Player and Speakers at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. I don’t know why but for some reason they don’t look as slick

Despite LEGO’s recent move into the consumer electronics field with LEGO digital cameras and LEGO video cameras, the world of portable video gaming has been left LEGO-free. If you’re looking for your brick fix, you’re going to have to make your own LEGO video game systems like these.
Which sadly means they are not functioning electronic items but just a pile of very well arranged plastic bricks. Cool craftwork on these though.

Lego Mp3 Player Spotted

Hobbymedia (it) has spotted the Lego MP3 Player and Speakers at the Nuremberg Toy Fair. I don’t know why but for some reason they don’t look as slick as the Lego Digital Camera does. It looks sort of rough and amateurish, especially the speakers. Perhaps they will make some modifications before these hit the market.

7 Foot Long LEGO Star Wars Mon Calamari Cruiser

Check out this amazing Mon Calamari Cruiser from Star Wars (the Home One version from Return of the Jedi for those keeping score at home) made from 30,500 LEGO pieces. It measures 82 inches long, here’s a photo of it for scale
What’s awesome about this ship is that it’s totally curved with nary a straight edge anywhere. And it’s constructed with squared blocks. The construction of this ship took 11 months to do. That’s heavy stuff! Speaking of heavy, there’s 52 pounds of LEGO used to make this at a cost of $5500. It also has an integrated lighting system for a cool effect. EPIC. CONFIRMED.

Taj Mahal LEGO Set is Largest Ever at 5922 Pieces

The real Taj Mahal took 21 years to build and it may very well take you close to that long to build the Lego Taj Mahal kit since it’s the largest LEGO set ever produced at 5922 pieces. Designed for the experienced LEGO builder, the Taj Mahal when build will measure over 20″ square and 16″ tall. The Taj Mahal is considered to be the world’s finest example of Mughal architecture and the LEGO version has all the elements that make it beautiful from the base, minarets, domes, finials, arches, to the stairs in the front! Pretty impressive!

LEGO Ghostbuster’s Ecto 1 Car

Who ya gonna call? LEGO brickmaster Rocko brings us his latest creation- the great car from Ghostbusters. Fire up the proton packs and get your LEGO Venckman mini-figs out because the Ectomobile is ready to fight Slimer and his crew. Nice work Rocko, I’m surprised that LEGO hasn’t issued an official Ghostbusters set like they do with their Star Wars series.

LEGO Boombox

Coming this summer is the LEGO Boombox. The brick shaped stero is 10 times the size of a normal LEGO block. It has a CD player under there as well as an AM/FM radio. Like all good boomboxes, it can run on batteries for maximum portability. Take it to the playground, daycare center, or your local library. There’s a headphone jack so the rest of your third grade class won’t be bothered by you blasting High School Musical- again. It will retail for about $40.

Lego Brick Candles

Happy Birthday Lego fans! The lego brick, with it’s rounded tops, is the perfect candidate to be made into a giant candle. This eight-wick soy, non-scented candle measues 7″ by 3″ by 3″ and is stackable just like regular Lego pieces. It costs $48, which seems like a not-so-good deal to me.

I’m on the fence about these Lego sunglasses- it’s either a really cool idea or just plain stupid. I guess it depends upon what type of Lego bricks or

How cute is this LEGO model? It’s the first Donkey Kong board in LEGO form. Donkey Kong himself looks more cute than mean in this version. It may not be perfectly to scale or totally accurate in other regards, but I like this one. Cute.

Lego Sunglasses: Cool or Stupid?

I’m on the fence about these Lego sunglasses- it’s either a really cool idea or just plain stupid. I guess it depends upon what type of Lego bricks or figures or whatnot you decide to attach to the sides of the glasses. These are designed by the French optical company Lynx Optique, so presumably they are only available in France. You could build a whole Lego helmet around these things to complete the whole “I’m a geek” look. Or something like that. Peace!

Lego USB Hubs

While not an official Lego product, these colorful Korean USB hubs are clearly Lego inspired knockoffs. Totally stackable and fun, you could add any Lego creation all around these to make them into whatever form you are feeling that day (I usually make brick walls out of my Legos- I’m the king of the wall!). Lego has started to get into the electronics game with some gadgets but clearly there is a demand for these type of simple Lego peripheral accessories… so come on Lego, let’s get this officially made!

Bottle Popper Easy Bottle Opener

Beer bottles aren’t always the easiest thing to open. Especially after you’ve had ten or twelve brewskis. With the Be Open Beer and Soda Bottle Opener, opening a bottle is as easy as pushing down on the gadget. Just press down and the Popper does all the work, opening your bottle with a satisfying “pop” sound. Not just for the heavily inebriated! Great for people who have difficulty manipulating things with their hands due to arthritis or other issues. Here’s a video showing how these bottle poppers work:

LEGO Yoda with a Boombox

Yoda is a product of the 80’s so it only makes logical sense that when he wasn’t busy filming Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and doing his various Jedi duties along with his normal household chores like dishes and taking out the Jedi trash, that Yoda would go out and do regular stuff that people in the 80’s did- like tagging graffiti walls with your own name written below giant boomboxes while wearing a sideways baseball hat. Cause that’s pretty much what most of the 80’s was like. Graffiti and Yoda. Oh and LEGO. Can’t forget LEGO.

Working Lego Telephone (Landline)

Lego has just started to get into the gadget world, issuing a whole bunch of electronic items such as MP3 players and digital camera in the trademark Lego brick design. But this isn’t Lego’s first foray into electronics. Back in 1989 Lego and Tyco issued the Lego Phone. The Lego Phone was a working landline phone with ring and pulse tone switches. The fully functional desk phone had brick buttons and you could add one any Lego bricks you wanted to design your own phone style. Fun old school phone.

You can buy Lego Phone on eBay relatively cheap these days.

Stop Motion Video LEGO Classic Arcade Games- Sick

This is the GREATEST THING EVER….of the week! Using LEGOs to create a stop motion video of classic arcade games? Yes! Sick! Oh, also did I mention..YES?! and SICK?! All hail Michael Hickox and his work! Hail hail! He has stop-motion animated the following games all in one collective video here: Frogger, Space Invaders, Pacman, Arkanoid, Tron (Light Cycles) and Asteroids. Six of the most classic of arcade games, all Legocized. I like the Tron one, I totally forgot about that game until just now. Here’s the video:

Lego Minifig Foosball Table… Goooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaalego

Foosball or table football is one of the world’s most popular bar games. Nothing like a good pint and a some foosball. Certainly it’s a safer game for drunks than darts. There’s something about foosball that just lends itself to drinking. Maybe it’s because it’s very difficult to get good at the game (because you’re always drunk- that’s a bit of a catch-22 there).

So it’s a bit odd that what I consider to be a drinking man’s game is combined with Lego, which is basically a children’s toy. Although maybe someone came up with the idea in a drunken stupor flash of brilliance. That’s probably it. Not sure how sturdy those Lego minifigs are, I would think they need to be glued or varnished or something to give them a little strength so they little men don’t go flying when you try to score a goal. Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllego.

Here is the greatest LEGO stop motion animated video you will ever see today. If you see a cooler video featuring LEGO sometime today, I will refund your money, no questions asked. Ok maybe a few questions, but not a full blown interrogation. This trippy video took a mere 1500 hours to create- that’s 62+ days non-stop 24 hours a day. On to the video:
