Bubble Blowing Dish Scrubber

Here’s a kitchen gadget that’s sure to be a hit with the kids- the bubble blowing dish scrubber. Just in case you wanted to spend a little extra time washing dishes, now you can blow dishsoap bubbles all over your kitchen. Then you can spend some time wiping up popped soap bubbles off all your kitchen surfaces. Sounds like a surefire hit. Unlike chocolate and peanut butter, there are some things that just weren’t made to go together. For those with an automatic dishwasher you can get the same effect (but much more intense!) by putting in twice as much detergent as needed and setting up a fan on the floor in front of your dishwasher.

Too bad it’s only conceptual right now but the Tetris Ice Cube Trays are tres cool (or tray cool I suppose). If you’re a bit hot after snuggling up in your Tetris afghan why not pour yourself a frosty chilled down with Tetris ice cubes? You’re probably wondering what else can I do with Tetris ice cubes besides put them in a drink? Well you could bring them to your local ice skating rink or basement air hockey table and play some miniature Tetris curling- that would take some serious skillz.

Forking Spacesaver Gadget

The UtiliTILE: Forked Up from Thout is hell of a forking spacesaver. Store your forks and your spoons vertically in one forking haphazard looking yet stylish accessory. The Forked Up uses some sort of magnetic apparatus to keep your forking silverware in place. It measures 24 inches square.

Fridge With Built-In Wine Cooler Section

The AEG Santo 75598 KG refrigerator has a built-in wine cooler (no, not the Bartles & James type of wine cooler, although you certainly could use it for those- no judgements here). The stainless steel side by side model comes complete with a separate wine section that can hold up to 39 bottles. The wine cooler features a LED temperature display and a restaurant style UV protected glass door to keep your vino at it’s optimum temperature. I would assume that having a combined wine cooler and regular fridge/freezer would have some sort of energy savings benefit; it certainly has some space saving benefits. This appliance retails for close to $6000 which is a small price to pay for the luxury of always having your Montrachet 1978 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ready to pour on a moments notice.

Marble Track Table is Simply Marbelous

Have designers lost their marbles? The Marbelous Marble Track Table from ontwerpduo combines a marble track toy with a functional kitchen table. It almost looks like something that creepy Anthony Hopkins character from Fracture would have in his house. The carved maple table has tracks going from the tabletop down the legs and into the base so you can be endlessly entertained by rolling marbles. Just make sure you don’t spill your beer down the track groove or you’ll have to send a sponge marble down there. And definitely don’t combine this with your homemade fireballs.

This is too cute not to post… the bunny and carrot paper towel holder from Alessi. Bring a little bit of pop flair and vivid colors into your kitchen. Look at that little rabbit…who can resist those sweet cartoon bunny eyes? Certainly not me.

Anti-Soggy Cereal Bowl Steps It Up

Everyone loves (chocolate!) milk in their cereal but nobody likes to have soggy cereal, except for my weird cousin Frankie but that guy’s got some major mental issues way beyond the scope of this site. Anyway- until now the only way to prevent soggy cereal was to only pour a little bit of milk-or cereal- in at a time. Not anymore!


The eatmecrunchy cereal bowl (great name, btw) has a small shelf on the bottom covering about 2/3 of the bowl. Your cereal stays dry except for the parts not on the shelf. You eat the crunchy, yet milk covered portion of your cereal and push more cereal off the ledge into the milk as you eat. The eatmecrunchy’s shelf is removable and the whole bowl is dishwasher safe.

Flip Toaster Keeps Your Hands from Getting Toasted

The Toast One concept from Martin Zampach is a single piece of bread toaster that will keep your fingers from getting burnt like toast. You just pop in your bread and when it’s toasted, the machine turns and dumps the toast onto your plate. Presumably it would also dump out all the crumbs too, which would make it sort of self cleaning. Now if only they could invent a machine that would butter the toast and hand feed it to me.

Freeze Your Balls Off with Ice Cube Balls

If you wanted make ice cubes into a ball shape you’d have to-well actually I have no idea how you would have done it. Until now. This two piece ice cube tray links together a top and bottom to make perfectly shaped spheres. There’s even a hole on the top so you can stick toothpicks in there for…uhm…uhm…yeah I don’t know why you’d want to do that, but at least you have the option to. My lack of knowledge in the ice cube arena today is actually quite stunning- thank you very much.

Really Cool Looking Space Invaders Cutting Board

The convergence of classic video games and kitchenware has not really taken off as much as you would think. The Space Invaders Cutting Board does it’s part to further the geek kitchen along. Made of walnut and maple and sealed with an FDA approved waterproof glue, the cutting board just looks really cool. The handmade board is available from the artist’s Etsy shop for $125.

Horizontally Wall Mounted Dishwasher Concept

The Mural Dishwasher concept from designers Marie-Christine Lacasse & Marie Claude Savard reinvents the dishwasher by hanging it on the wall. The Mural combines the dishwasher with your storage cabinets so the dishes are washed where they are stored. There is no need to move the dishes out of the dishwasher when they are clean, they are already put away. The cleaning mechanism slides along the shelf with water being fed and returned through the attached hose. It’s an interesting concept but if you don’t do your dishes every day then you are storing dirty dishes along with your clean and that’s not sanitary at all.

Sorapot Glass Teapot

Check out the gorgeous Sorapot teapot. The teapot is made of stainless steel with a pyrex glass middle. You place your tea leaves in the glass and pour the water in through the spout, then watch as the tea steeps itself. Unfortunately this can’t be placed right on the stove, so you will need something else (another teapot perhaps?) to actually heat up the water. So it’s not the most practical device but it looks really freakin cool, and that’s gotta count for something.

Clearly the Transparent Toaster is Awesome

This transparent toaster concept is clearly awesome for a number of reasons. Most importantly, you can see the exact level of toastedness your toast is at, ensuring that you never have burnt or undertoasted toast. Secondly, it just looks really futuristic and cool and with kitchen appliances looks really are half the importance. You know how many people have one of those awesome kitchen aid mixers in the fantastic matching colors sitting on their countertop, but the fact is that nobody ever uses them, it’s all just for show.

Well the clear toaster concept would at least have utility, unless you’re unwilling to deal with the possibility of it getting dirty (it is glass after all) which looks like it would be a problem. Cool idea though.

Typewriter Repurposed into a Keyboard Waffle Maker

The folks at Designhead have come up with a great use for a discarded Corona typewriter- convert it into a wafflemaker. Not just any wafflemaker- one that makes your waffles into the shape of keyboards, which to be perfectly honest isn’t really that much different than a normal waffle.

This is a great adaptive reuse of a obsolete piece of writing equipment. A tasty way to go green if you will. The only issue is that your waffles probably taste like stale coffee and cigarettes from thousands of hours of typewriter use back in the 70’s. Although maybe that’s what your morning tastes like anyway today. I’m not judging.

Dish Dryer and Herb Grower

Instead of letting all that runoff water from your drying dishes go down the drain, why not use it to water some herbs? This ingenious combo kitchen gadget lets you have the convenience and great taste of fresh herbs growing right on your counter without having to worry about all that pesky watering. The draining dish water drips right into the soil. Of course that’s making a huge assumption that you actually wash your dishes instead of letting them pile up into mini dish-mountains in your sink. In which case you won’t have fresh herbs but you’ll have some nice dry soil and rotting plant matter. Great!

Dry Erase Refrigerator

The Jot Dry Erase fridge from Amana is the perfect kitchen appliance for your crazy kids. Now you longer have to subject your refrigerator to a barrage of magnets and sticky notes and crayon stains. Just use a dry erase marker to jot down any phone messages, to do list items, appointments or doodles. Your kids can draw on the lower part and the freezer portion out of their reach can be for adult things. Just don’t let them start drawing on all your other white non-dry erase appliances! Although according to some people, you can use dry-erase markers on ALL refrigerators and you don’t need a specially designated one. I’m not taking that chance though.
