Scan-It Homeland Security Toy

Does your kid love airplanes but isn’t smart enough to become a pilot? Then it’s time to get them acclimated to their future job working for Homeland Security with Scan It- an x-ray metal detector playset toy for kids who dream of working in an airport. Or maybe they’d like to work in the private sector scanning items at a corporate headquarters office building? Either way, the kids pictured on the box are smiling way to much to be a screener- someone needs to teach those kids what a poker face is. With Scan It your kids can have hours of fun “wooshing” items through security on the moving conveyor belt. Cost is about $30.

USB Mini Whack-a-Mole

Ever had one of those days when you just wanted to bash in your computer or co-worker using just your fingertips? Well now you can with Whack It, the USB powered gadget is a miniature Whack-A-Mole clone. The moles light up and you “bash” them with your fingertips as your score is displayed on the LED screen behind them. It’s just like the real carnival game except for the mallet and that feeling of actually getting any sort of aggression or destructive behavior out of yourself (and of course there’s no skeevy carnies trying to steal your woman and take your money). The best thing about this toy? If your officemate asks what all that noise is by your cube, you can just say you’re “Whacking It”.

Flying Monkey Launcher

Who doesn’t love flying monkeys? Well as long as you’re not being attacked by them, it’s all good. To prevent monkey attacks from happening YOU MUST GO ON THE MONKEY OFFENSIVE. We’re talking a pre-emptive monkey strike here. If we don’t monkey attack our enemies, the monkey terrorists have already won. There’s only one monkey gadget that will catapult fez-wearing monkeys up to 15 feet and that is Flying Monkeys. Monkey mission accomplished.

ToyQuest’s Massive Touch Table

The new Touch Table EES from Toyquest is a massive swiveling touchscreen device that comes preloaded with several games and educational software (edutainment). The 21 inch screen can be used by kids to draw on digitally, view photographs, or use the encyclopedia. You can even dock your Wii into the side of it.
As someone who learned what’s inside an Etch-a-Sketch the hard way when I was a kid, I’d say that putting a $499 touchscreen device at kid’s eye level and encouraging them to press the screen is just asking for the flying elbow off the top rope. Clearly it’s not for adults as there’s no word yet on if photohunt or a password protected version of nude photohunt will be made available.

Mommy I Want a Toy Triceratops

Growing up there’s nothing I wanted more than a pet dinosaur like those kids from Land of the Lost. But no matter how much I begged and pleaded, my parents would still deny me saying things like “you have an active imagination” and “are you sure those were porcini mushrooms in the food last night?”. Kids these days have it easy. You want a pet triceratops? No problemo.
Playskool has now introduced KOTA the toy triceratops. This 40 inch long rideable toy has 11 sensors that react to kids’ touch by moving his head, horns, tail or giving a “friendly” dino roar. KOTA even comes with green leaves that he will “munch”. Like real dinosaurs, KOTA runs on 6 D batteries. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that there’s another possible use for this thing- a hack if you will- the world’s greatest dog toy. Imagine the possibilities. KOTA will be available in Fall 2008 for around $300.

Giant Interactive LED Wall: Supersized LiteBrite

Growing up I thought LiteBrite was the shizznizzle (that is, if the word shizznizzle had actually existed back then). The Imagination Light Canvas takes the creating art with lights concept to a supersized level. This 14 foot long wall of interactive LED lights is being installed at the Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, AR by Phillips Electronics. Visitors will be able to “fingerpaint” with the lights right on the wall. The lights refresh every few minutes, wiping the slate clean of your light masterpiece. Take that LiteBrite- the ball is in your court now- time to step up your game.

Most Annoying Toy in the World

The squawking chicken is hands down the most annoying toy in the world. This video freaks out my dog every time.
If anyone has a good pet or person reaction video to the squealing rubber chicken, I’ll link you up here. Not much else to say on this toy, I think the chicken speaks for itself.

People Crayons are Creepy Crayons

“Colours” are crayons in the shape of people from designer Heli Kristiina Hietala. Naked people. As you use the crayons, the shape of the drawing point changes along with the contours in the crayon person’s body. There’s something truly creepy about the half used people crayons though:

Transformers iPod Dock is More Than Meets the Eye

The convoy Transformers iPod speaker dock is a real transformer- changing from a tractor trailer to a robot and iPod speaker dock. Hands down, it’s the coolest iPod dock out there. A true robot in disguise. It’s not cheap at well over $100 but it’s both a toy and a speaker set and you can’t put a price on coolness. Get it now before Transformers 2 comes out.

Snoop Dogg Action Figures Fo-Shizzle

Bring a mini-Snoop Dogg home with you. The 12 inch Snoop Dogg Action figure comes in two different Pimptastic flavas- Snoopafly and Little Junior.
Snoopafly has 43 points of articulation for maximum Snoop bending (bending down to roll a joint, bending over to pass a blunt, bending around to slap a ho). Obviously being a pimp takes way more articulation.

Snoop Dogg Action Figures are outfitted in Doggstyle clothing, natch. Look out Barbie, there’s a new man in town and he just pulled a piece on Ken and kicked him out of the club. Snoop Dogg is in the Barbie Dreamhizzouse sippin’ on Gin and Juice doing it Doggystyle.

Big Wheels Trike with Built in Watergun

Where was this when I was a kid? Growing up all I had was a broken stick, a worn down tire from pop’s AMC Gremlin and a hill. The Huffy Green Machine H2O Trike With Water Guns is awesome for your kiddie gangbangers looking to do some supersoaker drivebys in the old cul de sac.

The Green Machine can shoot water over 20 feet with it’s oversized pressurized tank. That’s right, 20 feet. It has a 16″ rubber front tire and wide racing style rear tires. No more spinning out Scooby Doo style on cheapo plastic wheels that won’t grip the pavement- this is the real deal. To blast the water you use the firing controls on the joystick. If you see one of your neighborhood kids coming at you with one of these, you better run- fast. Costs around $100.

VBeat Electric Air Guitar, Yes That Says Electric

The VBeat Electric Air Guitar is the best non-touchable instrument since Beamz, or the theremin. The Silverlit VBeat is a two piece motion sensing electric guitar simulator. Is that tennis racket no longer cutting it for your air guitar workouts? Step it up with pre-programmed rhythms and three different play modes including “pop academy” (which sounds like someplace where that guy from Air Supply would be your music theory teacher and Hall and Oates would be the gym teachers). You must check out the video of this bad boy in action… there really are no words I can put here that can fully encapsulate the total VBeat experience more than this:

Table Football XXL 20 Foot Long Foosball Table

The Table Football XXL was built for Amstel Beer as part of the European Champions League Finals celebration. It is proclaimed to be the world’s largest foosball table and allows for up to 22 players to play at once. Not much info at the manufacturer’s page for this one-off item, but by my own estimate it’s over 20 feet long.

Byte Nesting Dolls

Take a look at these geek friendly Russian Nesting Dolls from designer
Art Lebedev. There is one each for bit, byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte and terabyte in ascending size made to fit one within the next. Perfect for your budding lil’ geek’s low tech edutainment toy collection. Cost is about $35.

100 Foot Tall Lego Tower is a New World’s Record

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lego, workers at the LegoLand Amusement Park in Windsor, UK have constructed the world’s tallest tower of lego. The structure stands nearly 100 feet tall is made up of some half million Lego bricks. The tower took 4 days to build and is held in place by guywires to keep from swaying and toppling over. The world record has not yet been confirmed by Guiness but it will break the old record, set in Toronto last year by 4 feet.

Ice Cube Curling Game

Curling is a great sport that only seems to be popular here in the US during the Winter Olympics. After the Games are over, it’s tossed aside and forgotten about as if it were some weird thing only Canadians are into (like the Tragically Hip). Ok admittedly “Ahead By a Century” is a decent song but other than that, they seem to be a bit generic and bland to me. What the hell was I talking about again…oh yes- curling.

So yeah, curling had a big event in Rockefeller Center that was broadcast by NBC on national TV but that’s about it. Maybe the reason it hasn’t caught on is because it’s nearly impossible to play here in the warmer climate of the US. Yes you can play on an ice rink but unlike hockey there is no ice-free alternative to curling like there is with street hockey or roller hockey. Until someone straps on some wheels to curling stones, you need the ice to play. Well not anymore.

With the Ice Cube Curling Game anyone with a freezer can play a miniature version of curling. The set comes with an ice cube tray to freeze up the curling stones and small plastic colored handles to attach to the stones. There are also tiny brooms and a board with the target. I’m not sure how long you can keep a game going since the ice cube stones will melt as you play, but it’s sure to be a novelty fun item for at least a little while. The Ice Cube Curling Game is currently listed as a “coming soon” product at wholesaler Volumeload so look for it soon at your local online gadget shop.

Rubiks Cube Pixel Artwork

Check out this awesome pixel cubism artwork from space-invaders.com created entirely using Rubik’s Cubes as the medium. The image above is a Rubik’s Cube pixel cubism Stanely Kubrick. Squint your eyes a bit to see it clearer. What a great idea, and the best part about this is that they didn’t even have to solve the Rubik Cube or even get a second side complete. Just one side is all it takes.

Mega Monopoly with Skyscrapers

They’ve finally updated Monopoly, the most popular of all board games (and I might add, the most awesomest as well). New Monopoly Mega Edition makes a few changes to update Monopoly to the 21st century with a larger board with more properties, new rules so buildings get built quicker, bus tickets and a speed die to move you more quickly along the board, $1000 bills, new utilities and a train depot, and best of all- skyscrapers!!!!
They’ve really stepped the game up here with the skyscrapers, adding a whole new dimension of fun and Trumplike building action to the standard Monopoly board game. With the new game, there will definitely need to be some strategy adjustments; what worked in the the classic board game, may not work as well in the new version. The only way to find out is to play it a bit the next rainy or sweltering hot day. Mega Monopoly looks great.

Inflatable Golf Simulator

The Inflatable Golf Simulator from Eball is perfect for the backyard golf enthusiast who simply does not have enough land for a full size golf course in their own backyard (aka everybody). Really it’s good for big events and parties and corporate promotions. Although I do appreciate the irony of the photograph above showing it set up on an actual golf course.

Inside is a screen and sensors and all the normal stuff you’d see in a golf simulator. But who really cares about that? The important thing is that it’s a blow up inflatable simulator, and like the bouncy castle it can (relatively) easily be move from place to place- you know, to avoid brown spots on your lawn. Plus it’s weatherproof which is a big advantage over real golf- just make sure you stake it down in high winds unless you want to try out “astronaut golf”.

Pickle Pult for Lobbing Pickles

It’s not often I get to type out the phrase “lobbing pickles” but when I do, it’s always a good time. Anywho, we’ve all wanted to lob pickles at our neighbor or buddies at some point but as with any food throwing there’s always issues, especially with pickles.

First off, there’s the brine that drips everywhere when you wind up to throw it. Nobody wants to smell like pickles the rest of the day, especially if you’re trying to be stealthy about your pickle attack. The brine trail and pickle reekage is a surefire giveaway that you are the childish douche in the office.

Then there’s the throwing itself. As we all learned in 7th grade health class, no two pickles are alike. This makes getting a consistent throwing motion to achieve the necessary pickle lobbing accuracy needed to hit your target very difficult. A team of former NASA scientists and ex-Microsoft software engineers determined that a better solution for pickle chucking was needed. Operation G.H.E.R.K.I.N was in full effect.

After much experimentation, fine tuning, patent searching, and meetings with lawyers and congressmen, along comes the Pickle-Pult to save the day. The Pickle-Pult is a trigger activated pickle catapult that launches up to four 1.25 inch long plastic pickles at your enemies. The plastic pickles are perfectly aerodynamic for better launching and they seem to have a slightly horrified expression on their face. Ideal for a wack pickle attack back after a snack or as a knick knack pickle attack stacked in a pack of sacks jacked up on a hacked tack in a shack . Office warfare has never been this dill.
