KISS Plasma Light Sculpted Head

The greatest makeup wearing band of the 70’s is back in light fixture format! Just what you’ve always needed- A 16 inch tall Gene Simmons head with an 8″ long light-up LED, flashing fiber optic glass tongue, complete with blood dripping from around the mouth. Ok, so maybe it would make a great gift for the KISS fan in your life. But I’d be scared as hell if I walked into a dark room and Gene’s glowing tongue was the only light.

Dishlamp is Made of Plates

Plates! We all use them. But what happens when you break a few from your set? Now you’ve got an odd number of mismatched plates and unless you’re a broke college student or a funky coffee house, you want a complete matched set.

The Dishlamp uses old plates to make a beautiful lamp. The plates are stacked in a visually appealing manner so that you only see the edges. This is the type of project you could do yourself with the proper drill bit and some lamp parts. But you probably won’t do it, so just enjoy the picture.

Seamour The Goggle Wearing Radioactive Sheep USB Lamp

It’s not everyday (at least for me) that you see a goggle wearing radioactive glowing sheep. Who knew that radioactivity could be so cute? Seamour is a USB powered lamp powered by green LED lights inside.
As everybody knows, radioactivity affects everybody differently. Some people shrivel up like Yoda, others develop superpowers and go about saving the earth and nailing hot chicks every night. But Seamour’s radioactivity is only active when he’s standing up. Tip him over and his internal light goes off. There are some things science just can’t explain and there hasn’t been enough research on glowing sheep to know why he does it. Just accept it, keep Seamour upright and move on.

Laser Cats Staring Light

Laser cats! This arty light from Steve Bishop is two clay molded cats with a pair of fluorescent light tubes rigged up between their eyes. And it’s freakin me the hell out! This would make one heck of a limbo stick!

Lamp Lamp Lights Up Lightbulbs

No, that’s not a typo! The Lamp Lamp, designed by HH Style, is a unique lamp. On it’s own, it can function as a spotlight or an uplight by placing a standard lightbulb in it. But use the special two sided lightbulb:

Eco Friendly Wind Up Vampire Bat Torch Light

The Bat Torch is not only adorable, he’s eco-friendly. This vampire bat has a wind-up LED light inside. The bat can be used as a normal flashlight or as a standing nightlight and is ideal for teaching children about energy. Ed Begley would be proud. Because nothing says “I’m eco-conscious” like a vampire bat.

Spark Lamp is Self Powered and Measures Your Energy Usage

The Spark Lamp idea by Beverly Ng is an LED lamp that is flipped over during the day to recharge itself via solar power. But that’s not all! Inside the lamp is an integrated WiFi which wirelessly gets your home’s power usage information. When you turn the lamp on, it briefly changes colors and flashes to tell you what your home’s power consumption is at that moment. The entire lamp sort of looks like a houseplant and is itself a metaphor for how plants receive sunlight and convert them to energy via photosynthesis. The idea is to make the owner more aware of their own energy usage. Interesting concept.

Mini USB Tiffany Lamp

There’s nothing classier than a Tiffany lamp. But not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on a lamp. What if you could make a miniature version of the Louis Comfort Tiffany masterpiece right in your home? What if it could be powered by a USB cable? What if I told you that I could get you the step by step instructions on how to make it for just three easy payments of $0. That’s right, three easy payments of $0. And if you’re one of the first 1000 people to act on this offer, we’ll cut the price in half. That’s right, in half. Operators are standing by. Make the call today. Change your life.

The Globe Lamps

Here’s a quick and easy (for someone else, not me!) project. Make dual pendant lamps out of a globe. Step by step instructions: cut a globe in half and stick some light bulbs up in there with some wires. Done. Next project.

Pimp Your Dining Room with Custom Chandeliers

Nothing says luxury like a custom chandelier. And nothing says “look at me, I’m pimp styling in my living room- ooh watch out- don’t trip on my diamond studded stripper pole” like a custom blinged out chandelier from Rock and Royal. Whether you want a gun chandelier or a giant unit chandelier (why? why? why?!), anything can be customized to your needs. Because you need a weiner chandelier for your Liberace tribute room, right?

Coin Lamp Won’t Work for Free

The Coin Lamp is no dummy…you want him to light up, you’re gonna have to pay up. Look at all those other idiot hippie lights giving away their light for free… power to the people! The Coin Lamp is like a yuppie, all about the money or as the designer says “the concept of values and reward, it subtly heightens awareness of consumption through design.” The switch is internal and coin-operated and will light up for a predetermined amount of time once you insert a coin. And don’t even think about bubble-gumming a coin to a piece of string to try to cheat the lamp!

Ultimate Geek Pen Does All Your Basic Geek Functions

Living in the Geek world there are certain things you are constantly doing- laserpointing, stylusing, flashlighting, UV lighting, writing. With the Ultimate Geek Pen, you can have all your basic geek functions covered in one handy pen! This ballpoint pen has a laser pointer, a flashlight on a flexible rod, a stylus tip, and a UV light. It’s battery powered and oh yeah if you want to (why would you though?) you can use it like a normal pen and write stuff. Just don’t shine that UV light near the computer… I know what you geeks have been up to .

Punching Bag Lighting Concept

The PunchLight is an interesting lighting concept by designers Jun Bum Park and Kim Jin Sook that will also reduce your stress levels. You can let it all out by punching the punching bag which will in turn light up every time you punch it. If your stress levels are anything light mine (and you too have a Mike Tyson right hook) then we could probably light up the whole neighborhood getting some stress relief.

Solar Light Cap Charges During Day, Lights at Night

The solar powered cap from ThinkGeek looks just like a normal baseball cap but it has some neat tricks up it’s sleeve (or brim if you will). On the top is a solar panel that receives the sun’s rays during the day and in turn charges a battery that will power up the two integrated LED spotlights under the brim of the cap.

The electronics are all enclosed in a waterproof housing. Just 2 hours of daylight will charge the lights for 2-18 hours of use and at full charge it can run for 36 hours. There’s a button on the brim that controls brightness level or sets the optional flashing “SOS” mode. The solar light cap is really an ideal camping, fishing or hiking accessory; if you’re going to be walking in the sun all day, you might as well put it to good use.

Good Nite Lite Readjusts Your Kid’s Sleeping Patterns

The Good Nite Lite is more than just a light for your kid’s room- it’s a patent pending behavior modification device. The light is designed for children ages 3 to 5 who are learning the difference between day and night and when they should be sleeping. The Good Nite Lite changes colors from yellow daytime sunshine to blue nighttime moonlight according to the times you select. Now your kids will have a visual clue as to whether or not they should still be sleeping or if it’s ok for them to get up and wake you up with a little Superfly Snuka jump off the top rope into your bed. The Good Nite Lite will be available in a few months for $34.99.

Use an Online Punching Bag to Create a Custom Lamp

The Cassius Lamp might be the coolest idea for a lamp ever conceived. You go to the designer’s website, and use the online virtual punching bag to punch a shape out. You can virtually rotate the punching bag to see all sides. Then the company will use 3D cutting materials to actually create a lamp in the exact shape you punched out online. The lampshade is made of a printed polyamide with a stainless steel lamp base. The cost to be your own lamp designer: about $3000… although it’s free (and fun) to just play around with the virtual punching bag/lamp design thing. So freakin’ cool.

Pop Up Light as Thin as a Credit Card

The Pocket Light is not only slim enough to fit in your pocket, it can fit into your wallet. Designed by Hyun Jin Yoon & Eun Hak Lee, it’s the size of a credit card and powered by a small cell. When you need a quick light, just take it out and flip up the lightbulb cut out. Currently it looks like it’s just a concept but it’s definitely a do-able one that could and should be in production soon.

Lamp Flashlight Combo is a Vision of Conical Duality

The TwoLamps lamp is a both a bedside lamp and a flashlight and it looks surprisingly good. The great thing about this is that you will always know exactly where your flashlight is and it will always be charged up. It’s also ideal for those late night jaunts out of bed into a dark house or yard to see what that weird noise was (just a raccoon I’m sure). As a nightstand lamp it looks very modern and stylish with it’s conical shape and soft lighting. A cool dual light for sure.

NYC Park’s Light Show to be Controlled By Your Heartbeat

An upcoming art installation in New York City’s Madison Square Park will have a light show that is controlled by people’s pulses. Artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s first U.S. public art display will be called Pulse Park and runs Oct 24th-Nov 17th. Visitors’ heart rates will be monitored by one of two sensor sculptures at either end of the oval shaped lawn. Their pulses will then activate 200 spotlights in a pulsating matrix of light across the lawn. The rendering above looks pretty cool, can’t wait to check it out!
